Valve cover switch was created by Darkangel
For those of you who have done the valve cover swap from US to Candian Model to get rid of the reeds, did you experaince a difference in performance?
Is the swap straight, are there anythings that one should be aware of?

I know on the 1981 and up KZ1000 heads you will still have to block off those tiny little ports that goes from the exhaust port up along the head to where it meets the valve cover. Without blocking off those ports and fitting a Canadian model valve cover. I don't think the valve cover gaskit would last too long before it blew out.
When using the Canadian model valve covers, I always filled in those little ports. The Canadian cylinder heads have that boss cast into them, but they do not have that port drilled through them. The non-reed valve covers do look some much cleaner and nicer!!! My KZ1000S1 used the Canadian model valve cover. I ordered a few of them back then for a few friends of mine.

I don't think the gasket will blow out. It won't have anymore pressure there (it's usually vacuum) than an emissions valve cover with the reeds blocked off. The gasket is the same for either.

The valve covers arent exactly the same they have the little pieces sticking out for the emmissions. But it could probably be used or modified.

well this is a kz 650 b2 model and i have found a valve cover that will work on it, and it would like to use it. I have already gotten rid of all of the other stock air crap, and i just want to eleminate any other issues that i may have with those reeds.

direct swap, no mods needed. no real performance gain or loss. I do it to all my bikes because the smog covers look so damn ugly.
they are just getting harder to come by. last one I bought for a j head was rough and cost me $80.
