I had to install the gears.Yes,it's possible I put them on wrong.Question...With the timing mark at the "T F1-4" mark, the #1 lobes point AWAY level with the v/c gasket, and the #4 lobes point AT themselves? Thanks. However this goes,I put in an order for a manual adjuster.

I went out to the garage and had a look. That way made much more scence. So now I've got to reset the sprockets.I suppose the thing to do would be to set the sprockets where the cams lines up as it sits. But the issue still is,and the whole purpose for this thread,is that when I go to strech everything out,the cams and /or crank ALLWAYS ends up out of time!!!!Does the manual adjuster give more "tighten" of the chain? I hope so.

Pay close attention to how the gears go onto the cams. It is in the manual in my signature.
As far as a Manual chain tensioner, No it is not supposed to put added extra pressure. It is to assure a certain amount of tension at all times once the motor is warm. Where reportedly the stock tensioner can fail, and let the chain go slack. Which can jump time and then bend valves etc.

So I zipped out to a friends house (CB1000 Custom owner/Certified Ford Master Tech...yeah I know, but I trust him anyway) and used his micrometer. We measured horizontally accross the fattest point of the lobe, and vertically accross the highest points of the lobe. Maury the results are in!!!Stock KZ... 1.133 accross 1.450 vertical.1 Groove GPZ (intake) 1.13850 & 1.480. No Groove (exhaust) 1.135 accross & 1.465 vertical. This tells me I have cams that have longer duration and higher lift than stock.Especially since the stockers are identical. It would stand to reason that this would be good to have more intake than exhaust, because the piston is coming up and pushing out all the exhauxt gas and then pulling in the intake charge, getting as much in as possible. If I had to,without a choice,I might be able to run the stock KZ for exhaust. If I can get this thing together without breaking anything more,I think I'm gonna have a hell of a GPZ 1100 Shafty!!!!Here's to Hope!!!
