Kz1000 bottom end and a kz900 head was created by lttletodd
Ok guys heres my issue. I have a kz1000 bottom end pistons and cylinders. But i have a kz900 head. Will the exhaust collars off a 1000kz1000 work and is there a difference between the years? Im putting 8mm studs in it.

As long as its a 77-78 bottem end it will drop right on,if its a 79-80 bottem end youll need to use the cam sprockets off the 1000 camshafts depending on what crankshaft it has.

The Z1 and Kz900/early Kz1000 had M6 X 1 studs for the exhaust system. On the "J" engines, Kawasaki went to M8 X 1.25 studs.

The 1977 KZ1000A1, and the KZ1000B1 both had 8mm exhaust studs. Only the Z1/KZ900 heads had the little 6mm exhaust studs.
Thats the way everybody spots a 900 head from a 1000 head.

you can use the the newer collars on the smaller studs in a pinch with some flat washers

The collars are physically the same 73-80 900/1000,only difference being 8mm holes starting on 77 kz1000 versus 6mm for 73-75 z1 900 and 76 kz900 and im guessing the early 77 900s used 6mm studs also.

J model collars will fit and look a lot nicer IMO.
