What brand of pipe? Every Kawasaki I've owned(1977 Kz1000, and 1982 GPz 1100) had the exhaust system clamped to the exhaust ports by using the "Half Moon" holders and clamps. Tried a double exhaust gasket? I understand that the Suzuki gaskets for the exhaust are double in thickness, and www.z1enterprises.com can get them for you.

Looks like a vintage Bassani Superbike pipe from the late 70's/early 80's. Someone must have added the springs and their mounts to your pipe. The stock Bassani pipe DO NOT come with the springs and their mounts. Remove the pipe and make sure all four ends of the header pipes are inline with a straight edge. I bet the one that is leaking is the one that does not line up with the other three!!! Carefully bend that pipe so it lines up with the other three. And make sure there is NO carbon build up on the inside or outside of the header pipes when they fit into the spigots. I used to tap each pipe with a big rubber mallet before and after I installed the springs.

I used to use a Kawasaki KX exhaust spring on my pipes, part number I think was 18071-003 if I remember right. I used Bassani pipes on all of my Kz's back then. And I sold many of them back in the day too. I NEVER had a exhaust leak from where you have yours. I used to use two springs per pipe on my bikes. My pipes never leaked, but did turn the Gunkote a real nice shade of light grey after a few hours of running but no leaks!! If you look at my posting of my Kz1000 under New Members "I want to ride again", you will see the discoloration of my pipe up near the head.

I would cut those brackets off there and get longer studs then use the stock brackets or move those further down and use the stock brackets.

upon a closer glance, would you say that maybe it is not an exhaust leak but rather the oil from the valve cover dripping on the pipes?    :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I had a racing exhaust with similar fittings, the main flanges bolt to the head and the exhaust ends slip over the flange, the spring holds the exhaust to the flange. Unfortunately if the springs are too weak the exhaust gases actually push the exhaust away from the flanges. There will always be a slight leak where the exhaust slips over the flange but it'll leak a lot more if the springs are too weak.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 82 KZ 1100 WHEN I TRIED TO INSTALL A mAC 4 INTO 1. i HAD A LEAK IN THE FIRST HEADER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BIKE. aFTER TAKING THE SYSTEM ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES IT DAWNED ON ME THAT IT WAS NOT SEATING PROPERLY SO I DOUBLED UP ON THE COPPER GASKET AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED.
