KZ 750 typical starter clutch repair
23 Apr 2013 18:22
Hey everyone, I have a 1977 kz 750 and it has the typical starter clutch problem. I found the repair kit on Z1
Starter Clutch Repair Kit
What else do I need and how do I do it? How long will it last me? Is there an alternative that will be better? I tried to buy a repair manual but couldn't find one for under $50. I also looked for a guide on how to replace the starter clutch and found no such documentation online.
Sorry for all the questions, thanks for the help.

I believe there is a step by step guide to replacing a starter clutch on a KZ650 in the Filebase under the KZ Information tab at the top of this page.
Same steps required on a KZ750.
Above cut and pasted from a similar post of mine 5 yrs ago. I followed the instructions and it was not too difficult.
Good luck

No, the guide you link is for a four cylinder, the four cylinder 750 didn't arrive on the scene till 1980, so the 77 has to be a twin.
If you click on my avatar and look at the last dozen or so posts I've made, one of them contained a link to a manual you can download.

Yep, that's the one.
It's a fairly easy job, you can use the rear axle to pop the rotor off. Just screw it into the rotor as tight as you can get it, then give it (the end of the axle, not the rotor) a whack with a hammer and it should fall right off. It's a taper fit, move it 0.001" and it's free.
