should a hot compression test be different from a cold compression test? Mine are the same. What are the implications.

Depends what the numbers are. A really tight engine like mine (just rebuilt) shows less than 5 psi change from cold to hot because the "swelling up" of the metal parts doesn't change the fit much. When it gets old and loose, that swell helps increase the compression.
