If you really want to piss of the neighbors why not just put a police siren on it? :woohoo: At least that way you won't reduce the engine's performance.

I have pretty much a straight pipe on my KZ900 after the Kerker 4-1. It is quiet until I lay into it. I can cruise around all day and not have any problems with too much noise but if I let her rip and shift at 10k, you can hear it clear as day from over 2 miles away.
I'd suggest some sort of proper muffling. What I am doing is taking some perforated tubing, making a couple end caps, wrapping the tube in the fiberglass muffler packing and sticking it in my straight pipe. Keeps the same look but allows you to get away with having more fun before the cops come to investigate. :woohoo:

That's hard to say, but the good news is that in your case the exhaust from all 4 cylinders still goes through 1 pipe. If, on a fairly stock engine for example, you were to cut all 4 pipes so they each ended individually rather than all hooking into a collector, the exhaust scavenging affect would be lost. The odds are extremely high that that would result in a loss of power. Ed

In general, screwing with the exhaust system at all on a bike loses power. The bike's are tuned pretty much on the peak by the manufacturer. Even the aftermarket pipes that give a "power gain" get it at the expense of low end torque loss and also they are tuned up to work with the bike's intake system (of course rejetting is required). Straight pipes are going to run like crap on a street bike. You might eventually get a power increase across the high end range but low and mid will suck. I have no idea what an "unpacked" baffle will run like?

Here's what I got. Didn't have the money for a new pipe so I hacked up what I had n made this. Seems to have all the bottom end I need. Don't really ride wide open a lot and didn't ever have the factory exhaust so dont know what gains or losses I have achieved

Brit twin owners -- maybe even 650ed  -- sometimes removed the mufflers and installed baffle inserts to reduce the noise.
Usually achieved degraded engine performance, and a not-very-manly exhaust sound.
Good Fortune!
