Re: Carbs pop when key is turned off

SO... here is what I found this morning. Removed suspect plug to 4. It went dead. 3 was firing fine now. Replaced plug and now 1 is dead. So when I removed cap ever so slowly away I heard the motor fire on all 4. When I moved it closer it bogged down again. SO, I am getting resistance somewhere. The new ignition with the coil mod is bringing out the little bugs I believe. I can't wait to get this figured out cause it sounds like it may run pretty good after this. Here's the coils and I need to somehow install new wires into these. The old man somehow put them in with an epoxy? Anyone know what kind of coil these are? Any ideas would be helpful on how to get them installed into the coils?

The coils look older. I would replace them with some new dyna 3 ohm coils if the budget allowed, get new spark plug wires. You can buy 8mm copper core wire kits that you cut to the right length. It comes with all ends needed and enough wire for all four plugs. The kit is pretty cheap probably round $20. You could get both from z1 enterprises. I dont think you should be running suppression caps. But not sure. I know with dyna s ign and dyna coils you dont.

Ya bro, I thought I had it fixed earlier. New plugs with a suspect cap replaced. It sounds kinda hollow if that makes sense. I rode it, shut it down at the meeting and went out to fire it up and the 2 exhaust was colder than the rest. She had been popping on the way there anytime I down shifted. But when I got home I pulled the plugs and the number 2 was bright white. Weird. I am under the assumption I need to save up and get Dyna coils and some wires with it and hopefully that fixes this headache. I was just hoping to be able rock those other coils until then. Thanks

What that means is, either one of the plugs, or one of the plug caps is bad.
When you pull the plug cap off the plug it creates an air gap between the two, so it takes more voltage to jump that gap, so the plug sees more voltage.
Most likely a bad plug or gap is to large.
Center plug on the 500 triples use to be prone to fouling, and the corrective action was to reach down and pull the plug cap off, then lower it till the plug started firing, then plug it back in. At 100 mph or so

Yep I'm not riding it until I get this sorted out. It keeps jumping from cylinder to cylinder. I don't know how old these suzuki coils and wires are that are on the bike but apparently the coil mod with new electronic ignition is too much for the old leads and they are showing that they are defective. It's always something.

I have a 1983 suzuki GS300L with that same weird issue.. cylinder 2 sparks when i turn the key on and off. So itll back fire sometimes when i turn the key on or off. Maybe somethings grounded out with the key switch..

It has an electronic ignition? Something to do with the energy in the ignition. It's not hurting anything from what they tell me. My buddy has a guzzi and ever since he put the dyna ignition in it it has the same pop. But anyway...
