reed valve vacuum too strong was created by donthaveakawman
The exhaust reed valve system has a hose that goes into the airbox and when I went to spray it with carb cleaner it had a very strong vacuum going into it and the engine wanted to die even with my finger on the hole from the airbox.
should I just glue my crankcase breather to in and plug the airbox or what?
is there a chance the vacuum solenoid is leaking into the carbs?

Most people I know eliminate that system. There are companies that make block off plates but u can run a hose from one reed cover to the other and cap off your vacuum ports on the carbs and air box. Doing this lessens your chance of a vacuum leak and doesn't effect performance at all

I noticed when I close the throttle it pops a little. when those hoses get the most vacuum, I always thought it was burning some extra fuel.

From what I understand that's all there to eliminate popping durind deceleration by adding fresh air to the exhaust so obviously its not working correctly. Id take it off. Just my opinion

I have another exhaust on there for extra horsepower and I think the exhaust velocity sped up with this upgrade. I think the breather would help and maybe with the oil vent right below the exhaust thing on the airbox would be the reason it is consuming oil.

I must have missed the consuming oil part. Not sure that any of that would have anything to do with oil. Think I'll leave this one to the pros. Look to wireman or 650ed. They know a lot more than I do. Good luck

mostly it seems like I am getting a little too much vacuum at that opening in the airbox and it wants to cut out at idle.

so I am planning to disconnect it and put a crankcase breather on it then plug the airbox. all in favor say I.

It is there to burn off extra fuel, but on deceleration, it is already lean so the vacuum switch shuts off the air supply on deceleration. If the vacuum switch is broken, it gets fresh air into the exhaust all of the time and you then get popping on decel.

the pod filters were not to my liking, I get rained on quite a bit.
the airbox with a k&n works great but I still have a leanish spark plug issue.
is there a reason for the vacuum holes in the bottom of the airbox?
