how to oil your clutch cable in ten easy steps

yes that's right folks the cable that you should depress with your left hand everytime you shift gears. it needs to be oiled and it runs down under the engine of your kawasaki motorcycle.
the process includes several steps, they are as follows;
1 find the bolt and nut that your clutch lever pivots on.
2 undo that bolt and set it aside as you will need it for reassembly.
3 line up the adjuster so you can slip the cable through them.
4 take the cable out of the lever and slip it through the adjusters.
5 find a sandwich baggy and a rubber band.
6 find some oil.
7 fill the bag with oil and wrap the rubber band around the bag sealing it to the outer clutch cable.
8 drain the oil into the cable.
9 reverse the steps I have just provided.
10 work the cable back and forth and be very careful of extra oil that may leave a mess or cause your tire to slip.

I hang mine up from the rafter in the garage and spray in the multi purpose teflon spray lube into the top and let it run out the bottom. Works great takes 30 seconds.

My way is pretty much like bountyhunter's, except I use a homemade cable luber.... see yellow funnel & tubing in pic... just shove it onto the end & spray. The funnel collects the overspray & redirects it back to where you want it.

i just get a sandwich bag and cut a corner off, then insert cable in hole. i tape the hole up to the cable and then spray until i see the oil going out of other end.

I use one of these tools not only on my bikes but boat as well. Can lube a cable in about 20 seconds when attached to an aerosol can of Cable Life.

Re: how to oil your clutch cable in ten easy steps
02 Apr 2013 19:25I like the fuel tank, what I did was kinda messy and I used 10w40 and way too much. the throttle cable had a plastic liner that I wasn't sure of but it seems to have worked, now I need to degrease the garage floor.

My exact method. Don't even need to remove the cable, just disconnect the lever end.
