Its not going into gear,or not staying in gear?
Is this a new problem?

yes new problem, not wanting to go into gear sometimes, always did great, only thing we did is put an overshift bushing in it but don't think that could cause the problem, I have been told it needs a heavy duty detent spring old one must be wore out

Maybe check the clutch adjustment, Ive seen the clutch misadjusted and making it hard to go into gear. But also my last motor that wouldnt go into gear and or jumped out, had the bearing out on the output shaft.

They make/sell the overshift bushing,so they probably have dealt with the problem before and have a cure for it. :)
if all else fails larry might have a source for the spring

is the problem with any gear in particular? could be on a race cut tranny, a shift fork issue or even a shift drum. is an air shifter used ?

I could only find ones for the GSXer's, they don't seem to have the Kaw ones listed. I'm sure APE will have them though.

I would just put a new OEM spring in it if I had doubts about the current one. If the drum is truly trying to roll by the detent, that should cure it. That's the only thing that might be happening if everything else is in order.

Might seem obvious but check the shifter isn't binding in the sprocket cover bushing and also that the trans cover isn't binding anything. I've seen issues with trans covers when a gasket isn't used.

Never used a "heavy duty" detent spring or even heard of it. Been racing these bikes a long time. One thing I did learn is it matters who does the work on the trans. I was always trying to find the cheapest place. Then I woulld load everything up and drive 6 hours to race and guess what, the bike didnt shift! Been send my transmissions to R&D in Clearwater Florida and never missed a shift since.
