Headbolt torque
05 Mar 2013 20:31
So.. stock 76 kz900. original head studs. book says 25ft lb. I have read on here 36ft lb. is better. should I go on to 36?
And should I re-torque, after the initial torque?

I'll send you a PM with a link to manual. You need to torque them in the correct order also.

Thanks, but no link necessary. I already have it. did the proper order, and it says 25 like my hardcopy book. Just seemed a little loose at 25. I have seen where guys say they go 36, wondered if i should go to 36.

Maybe 36 with APE studs. I wouldn't go any more with 35 year old bolts. Retorque after heat cycle then again at 500 miles.

42 lb with APE HD studs.
Stick to 25 lb with the std ones.
Run the bike then let it cool overnight and re-torque.
Re-torque again around 500 miles later.
