replacing valve seals -- should I lap the valves?

subject says it all. I'm replacing the valve seals and cleaning things up. should I lap the valves as a matter of course? I'm not replacing the valves or anything, just taking them out. anything else I should do while the head on my bench?

Check the guides. If they are original, they will probably be shot
