KZ650 Cylinder Head
25 Feb 2013 16:33
I have a 1979 Kawasaki, KZ650 B3 bought new in 1979. I was hit by a car in 1982, so the bike just sat for many years. In 2006 I began to restore the bike, new paint mag wheels, and a whole lot of other parts to bring her back to life. This year I'm going to concentrate on the engine. I'm looking to have the cylinder head restored/refurbushed to start the project. I want to not only have the head rebuilt, but I would also like the head ported. I'd like to find a shop that does this type of work, one that is well recommended by other riders.

What are you doing to the rest of the motor?
What pistons/cams/carbs are you going to use?
How will bike be ridden?

Youd probably be better off just sending it to ape,but they will ask you the same questions.

wireman is sometimes onto something
contrary to common belief, porting without other enhancements to complement it is pretty useless.

My plan is to rebuild the motor which would include cams, cam chain, new pistons, and a set of carbs. I also want to have the crank welded and a new oil pump. I plan on riding the bike as a daily rider, but every so often I intend on running her hard done a quarter mile stretch. Oh yeah, throw in some highway riding.

Well your 650 has 1 piece crank,no welding required.
But that means you have those pesky rod bolts to deal with instead
