I did. I used small vise grips to clamp on the studs to gradually let the cylinder down. After all rings were in, I unlatched the ring clamps and slipped them off and removed the metal bands. Then I put the sealer on the base gasket and lowered the cylinder into place.donthaveakawman wrote: yeah, try to get a piston ring compressor out of under the block.
The "hand squeeze" method might work if you have more than one person to wrestle everything into place.

Follow the link past your elbows-> wrists-> hands-> fingers....
These two sets of tools work like magic on rings and such every time with track record proven results...
They can be used for 2, 3 or 4 cylinder ring compressions. Best part they're FREE!
Now if you still feel the need to have a different tool... Ace, Home Depot, Lowes have thin rolled aluminum or steel material (soda can wall thickness) that could be used as well... Slide out from top of cylinder hole.
