Carb holders fixing to head, JIS screws? was created by Mirbooya
Hi everybody.
I have to replace the carb holders on a 1981 E2 KZ750. I have noticed these are cross head screws and suspect they are theJIS type. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks in advance.

I would imagine they are Japaneese Industrial Standard heads on the screws unless someone traded them out. Do they have a dot on the head?
I use allen head fasteners to replace the screws. So much easier to remove. Roy

They are JIS for sure. If you plan to remove them and don't have a set of JIS bits take a look at the link below; it should help. Also, soak the screws for 2 or 3 days with Kroil. If you do that and use JIS bits or bits modified as described in link the screws should come out with no problem. My screws had been untouched for 28 years and they came out easily using a modified bit after the soaking. Ed

I use my craftsman impact driver with a bigger than #2 bit. Has worked for me every time. Just make sure you push as hard as you can when you pull the trigger.

With just a few minutes of fine tuning you can make the screwdriver bit fit like the one below, and it will last a lifetime. Believe me when I say that greatly reduces the risk of stripping the screw head.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I serviced the ATU last week and striped out one of the screws using standard phillips head bit on an impact driver. Luckily I could remove it with a vicegrip but I had my suspicions about JIS screws then. Tried to find a dot on the screws but could not. I have read elsewhere on the forum that the screws that fix the ATU plate are JIS.
There is a pretty good article on wikipedia as well with the differences between JIS and phillips: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives
I'll go with 650ed's advice and make up some bits with a shallower head.
