Cam End Plugs.....engine removal? was created by w8lifter21
I think the time has come to finally get these replaced. Question is, does the motor have to be pulled for this job? If memory serves me right I think there should be enough space, but not 100% sure. When getting these replaced, are there other things/items I should consider replacing as preventive maintenance? '82 750 4cyl with 10k

The motor stays in place. Just pull the valve cover off, replace them, and pop it back on. It's an easy task. Use a little sealant where the curved section of the plug mates with the cylinder head. Ed

By you asking that question leads me to believe you have never done a valve check / adjustment on tath engine, it has 10,000 miles on it. The recommended valve check intervals for that bike are 3,000 miles. If you are going to replace those end plugs might as well check the valve clearance.

Those style caps have the bolts through them so blow outs shouldnt be a problem,Id clean them up and reinstall with a little 3bond around the curved part and new valve cover gasket after checking valves B)

Thanks for the info I definitely haven't.

Guess I better start printing off pages from the manual :)

So don't bother replacing them? I can see the corners of the 1/2 moon shape starting to "curl" out away from the motor so I assumed they were starting to come out. After a few hundred miles I have light oil build up on the heat sinks. Not quite to a drip yet but there's definitely oil making its way out. I figured for $15 why not lol.

Wireman is right that they won't blow out, but they get hard as diamonds and shrink some after a while, so I would go ahead and replace them. Make sure you have a new valve cover gasket on hand; you may need it. Ed

Ah, very true. I have come across many rock hard rubber parts under the scortching hot hood of my 300zx.

You can replace those without removing the cylinder head?

Yep just pull the valve cover off Jay,those are the style you guys dont make.
Is it the bolt going through the center that makes it tough to get a seal in there to seal aluminum ones Jay?
I always figured that was why you guys didnt make them B)

I was just kidding. We never made those because I didn't think there would be enough of a market for them.
