curious about my clutch, I occasionally get some slipping either in the tire or the clutch, yesterday on the freeway i dropped it into 3rd and the tach went off the wall when I opened the throttle. I am curious about stronger clutch spring, which are available for a fair price. from what I understand they should be at least replaced when changing the clutch

I would first adjust the clutch using the instructions in the manual. Very often that will solve the problem. The stock clutch springs are normally strong enough for stock engines. If you install heavy duty or racing springs you may find the clutch lever becomes tiring in traffic. Ed

tighten adjusting screw and back it out a half turn, uh huh. I do think it would be a hassle to have stiffer springs in traffic that may be a pain.

Make sure the central cable adjuster and the nut at the lever are also adjusted correctly. Another issue you could be experiencing is moly or some other "Friction Modifier" building up on your clutch plates if automotive (Energy Conserving) motor oil has been used instead of oil that is JASO-MA compliant.

Heavy duty clutch springs can be a real pain in the wrist in traffic. My old BSA ended up with a factory competition racing engine (long story) and that clutch was murder to use in traffic. Ed

its amazing there are still guys like you who try to help him, i gave up on it after the exhaust crud thread. you must be a nice guy. and im posting to say plus one on adjustment and wear preventitive additives in oil, i had a guy bring me a gsxr that would slip horribly, after adjusting what i could and checking the plates we figured out he was using a big brand hi milage type oil. keep up the great advice, most people have no clue about the oil.
