turbo install question
24 Jun 2006 06:03
I read some of the past articles on turboing a kz900/1000 and was wondering how a t-3 42ar turbo would work on a stock very tight low milage 900??? I would run low boost of course not to blow the bottom end out either. As for the carbs; could I jet the crap out of the 26's to save $$$ or just buy a 42 mik?
The oil question? Could I just run from the oil cooler to the turbo back to the block or do I have to fab up a crazy sump from the pan area?
I just thought this could be cool project. I have access to the turbo and can fab myself. I know about the timing and fuel also.
Who all is from omaha????

T3s don't work too well on bikes, the turbine is too large unless coupled with a T4 compressor on a 400hp monster. If you want a cheap turbo to suit a 900 with 200hp capability look for a T25. Blowing through the stock carbs is almost certainly a bad idea too, it can be done but it is a total pain in the ass to get right. Go for a draw through HSR42 Mikuni or EFI.

brokekz, don't let him fool you.
he just takes them apart, and shows off old pics of them when they were still together. 8^)
omaha here as well, not a bellevue resident, but up north off of w/maple.
on topic, re the turbo: the hsr works great on a draw thru(same's mine), but ultimately i want to build injected/turbo'd kz.
i have ideas, plans, and absolutely NO time to start that project right now.
