Reed Valve Oil Leak was created by Spectre1982
I'm removing the air suction system on my KZ750. Inside the hose there was a couple tablespoons worth of oil. Underneath the air suction valve covers both sides look oily. One side looks pretty clean, the other side has black burned up oil. A little bit of oil was dribbling from the air suction valve covers this season. Anybody know what's going on? My oil level looks normal, not too full.

Thanks

I can snap some photots tomorrow if I'm being unclear.

Pictures always help, so post some up. Any signs of oily residue on any of the spark plugs? If not, then its probably valve stem oil seals. They will leak into the exhaust port, and a reed valve for the fresh air system can have it push up past the reed if it doesn't seal. The reed should be a one way check valve, only letting air in, not exhaust out. If you pull you EX off at the head you can see if the stem seals are leaking.

maybe the fitting in the airbox is screwed up where the crankcase ventilation sits right next to the clean air/reed valve vacuum hose. mine are acting funny also, idling in the driveway I can hear them tap, tap, tap with suction going into the hose. I have pod filters now and no way to use the vacuum hose on my 750 so it just sits under the gas tank.

Here's a couple of pics. As you can see, one is pretty burned up looking.

After more thought my theory is oil came up from the crankcase breather, got pulled into the air suction system and worked its way down to the reed valve area. I'm assuming there's not supposed to be oil in there. The oil level is pretty close to the high marker. maybe too much oil? Can oil get flung up from the cam past the reeds?

Hopefully removing the air suction system will fix any leaking oil since it can't suck any more through.
