81' KZ750-4 valvetrain Question was created by kzcafe750_24
Hey guys,
Does anybody know if the stock intake and exhaust valves have satellite valve coating on them. I am just wondering, if I should replace the valves or can they be grinded. I know if you grind a valve that has satellite coating, the valve is junk. If anybody can give me some information on this or point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks,

It's "stellite", and it's some interesting stuff, even though it's not used in KZ motors.

Check out the story at Wikipedia

Its used a lot in modern valves. These days very common to have the Coating. That's why valve jobs are usually good for 150K + in a modern engine. Don't forget about the modern Valve seats also, which are not in the KZ motor either.

Check PSP Ebay Store here. He should have a full set for your bike in stock, APE Valves.

Ten 4 guys thanks for the info, Ya sorry didn't remember what it was called, but I figured satellite was close enough where someone could get what I ment. And Yes, I know that stellite coating is used in modern equiptment, as I am a motorcycle technician at a Honda, Polaris, and Victory dealer, and all that equiptment runs the coating on their valves; I just did not know if the KZs' had that technology back in the 80s.
Thanks Again,
