Which carbs to use?

I have the stock set of 28mm non pumper (canadian model bike) carbs on the bike right now. With the new intakes I'm putting on today it should run well. I have a line on a set of 29 smoothies for about $450 or a set of RS34's for about $225.
Now, my thinking is, the 29's offer the simplest install and original look for the bike but, $450 is a lot of money for a set of old tech carbs that will need to be gone through. ( I've never really been a believer in 1mm larger smoothies benefitting power output by much- maybe somebody could clue me in on this).
The RS34's are a bunch lighter, more compact, newer technology, have an accellerator pump, but I will need new manifolds and will have to try and blend the manifolds and intakes for them to work. I will also have to give up the stock airbox and perhaps open a can of worms with pod filters.
Your thought and opinions please!
thanks.
Don

RS34's for the newer technology, smoother operations, easier to jet/dial in when required, easier to obtain parts for and as you mentioned, @ $225 that's a smoking deal for those carbs.

Main jet from 115 to 125
Moved needle up one.
Pilot screw is 1 turn. Book says 1/4 to a 1/2 turn....why do I have to go out to 1 turn???
Might have to change the Needle Jet up a few sizes. Im at stock 568 P-4 now.
Still abit lean on plug reading with changes.
Going to have Dyno Tuned this spring.....and get it nailed dead on!!
With your setup.....should be a boltup and go....wont have a lean problem.

Yeh, I agree, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I was a little choked that my 28's that I rebuilt were not firing on #1 at idle and part throttle. I blamed the old manifolds that were probably a bit leaky. Today I replaced the manifolds with new and improved one's. I thought it would be a good idea to check the pilot jet on number 1 for blockage. When I took the bowl off, the pilot was no where to be seen!! Doh!! I don't know how I missed that! I found it in my jet box, put it all back together and it now runs PERFECTLY!
I will probably still get the RS 34's and change them out after I get to ride the bike for a while as is ( I've never ridden this bike yet). When i get the seat rebuilt she will be ready to roll.

Thanks for the input. How are the RS34's for fuel mileage on your bike? I don't care that much about fuel cost on the bike but its nice to have a decent range.
