Just a question folks. If you flip a cylinder block over, there are eight (8) rubber plugs blocking the ends of chambers that are open to the outside. What is the function of those plugs...is it merely to keep dirt/detritus from contacting the base gasket?

If I understand correctly, those are there to dampen vibration, so the aluminum cooling fins don't ring.

That is indeed what they are for. Other wise your Kawasaki would sound like Yoko Ono at a some point in it rpm range :woohoo: ;) :P
