head removal... was created by lushbaugh
pulling the top end off to see what im doing for the bore and crank for the turbo build and i cant get it off, all the nuts and two ten mm bolts are out, hit it with a rubber mallet like it owed me money and all.... any tips?

Yes, be very careful you don't break any fins or warp the head. Here is how I got mine off:


When taking the cylinder block off. Only use a large blade screw driver in the bottom slots as a last resort. And if you do don't hammer it and don't put too much pressure on it. Otherwise, you may damage the block and or the slot expands and you may damage the gasket surface contact area. Good luck.

Remove the plugs and with #1 at BDC stuff rope into cylinder (I use some soft clothes line rope)untill full and then turn the crank. This works every time and will not break any fins

Back in the old Ford flathead days, we would back the bolts off half way and start the motor.

i got it off ok, took some work tho, found a nicely welded crank and nice wiseco pistons inside lol

You never know what's inside. I opened a 900 engine this year and found 13:1 pistons and 458 lift cams.
