changed headgasket and now wont start ...??? was created by andyvr4
Hi I have a 1983 kz750 Ltd h4 chain drive. And I just replaced the headgasket and put it all back together and now it doesn't start. I think its my timing I lined up the z7ex with the head on the exhaust cam and counted 45-46 teeth and put the in, between 44-43 cause it looks like the picture. But it says to put it at 45-46 teeth but I'm afraid ill mess up a valve. And i did this all at t1 notch next to f1f4.

sorry but looks like you may have damaged her.
Timing must have been off. Just a few teeth off on chain or cam oriention wrong and a valve can come into contact with the piston.
I would guess no noise if you try to start...like backfire or any sign of bike turning over or tring to run?
I would try to correct timming first, this can keep further damage from happing if any at all.
Then if bike turns over a compression check would be in order. If that is ok the valves are fine.

Haven't done a compression test yet will today. But was all at 120 before head gasket change. It did backfire after a couple of cranks. But did not start. I turned the engine over by wrench a few times before start and there was no tapping. All quiet. And even cranking no tapping. Also before all this I did the dynojet kit install and this is the first attempt to start it.

On some models it's possible to install the timing advancer rotor 180° out.
When the pointer (stock igniter) or embedded magnet (Dyna-S) passes by the left-side pickup module, it ungrounds whichever ignition coil is connected to the left-side pickup module, which causes the ignition coil to fire.
When the pointer (stock igniter) or embedded magnet (Dyna-S) passes by the right-side pickup module, it ungrounds whichever ignition coil is connected to the right-side pickup module, which causes the ignition coil to fire.
Good Fortune!
