Hey all,
This winter, I'm doing a front end swap on my '78 kz650. I'm putting inverted forks off a 2001 Buell Lightning that have a single disc, triple pot caliper set up.
What I'm wondering is if I can use the stock master cylinder off my kz (that supplied braking power for two single pot calipers) for this swap? I'm thinking I should be able to as the pots are fairly small compared to the large factory pots. If anything, I'm thinking it may make the front end fairly touchy as I'm reducing the amount of brake fluid that I have to move to make the calipers grab?
Any help here is appreciated!
Devin

easiest way is just try it. its not likely possible to be too touchy. touchier that u r used to yes. too touch , not likely.
all modern sport bikes have killer brakes. the advantage of them being touchier, it that u just use less efort. i can do stoppies with my cbr track bike, with 2 fingers , no problem. tooooo touchy. no way, not for me. this makes them provide lots of feel.

That's what I was leaning towards, Mark. I have all my brake parts in, just have to get the forks mounted and order in a banjo bolt switch. I guess trial-and-error will tell what happens here.
I've ridden a few new sport bikes before ('98 CBR 600, '05 Ninja 636) and those brakes (like you say) have TONS of feel, which I really like.
Time will tell I suppose...

That brings a memory to mind.
The first time I took a race school class, was the first time I road a modern sport bike, a 2008 zx6. The only bike I have owned for the last 30some years is my kz. So the instructor asked us to take off as fast as i could, then stop as quick and as close to the pylon about 1/8th mile down the straight. Well, I tell u, it took me quite a few ties to get close to the pylon. Being used to the KZ brakes, I was applying the brakes WAAAAAAAAY too soon, and would be slowed down early. The kz would require way more room to stop than the zx.

Is the Buell caliper a triple pot, or a six pot? What is the master cylinder piston diameter of the Buell master?
I was just wondering if you might have to go to a bigger master cylinder just to push enough fluid to move six pots.

The caliper is a 6 pot system, 3 different sized pots with two of each. I suppose what I could do is try it with the parts that I have as of now, and if I need to upgrade the master cylinder, I could.
Thanks for the tips
