STARTER ISSUE KZ 650 was created by PRACTIKALGUY
I have a 1980 KZ650F. The starter works fine when the engine is cold but, when it's hot, the starter half engages and half grinds. I'm not sure if it's a bad clutch, solenoid, or starter. Any ideas? Thanks.

Anyway to post a Video with a sound Byte? Otherwise it guess work for sure. Starter clutches are a common failure and do make a lot of noise.

Double check the type of oil you have in the crankcase. If it's a motorcycle type oil, then the clutch needs replaced, otherwise change the oil you have i n to a motorcycle type without all the friction inhibitors. Bob
