03 Dec 2012 00:01Perhaps the timing advancer is stuck and not advancing as it's supposed to with increasing rpm.jason289 wrote: ....As soon as i try to go fast it seems like 65 is tops and it just won't drink any more fuel or make power....

turn the air/fuel mix screws in all the way, then turn them out 720 degrees. see how that works then put some gasket sealer on them to make an air tight seal. 3-1/2 turns for jet kit on kz750 1980.

If you meant the needlejets the dynojet motorcycle website will have a download for you to look at that will say what needle position to use. If that is who you got the jet kit from.

Timing advancer is lubed and not stuck.what about air screw? 1 turn is 180 or 360? I will try moving the needle to the third notch from the top when it stops raining so damn much.plugs look black already but i'll try anything.

the needle clip position is measured from the pointy end, the idle mixture screw determines the air/fuel mixture at idle, it should be accessible outside the carburetor.

It's not a dynojet kit,i bought some cheap carb rebuild kits off ebay.aftermarket stock adjustable needles. My air screws are currently 1 180 degree turn,so maybe that's part of the problem.Rich at idle and lean at 1/2 3/4 throttle?.makes sense to me.but obviously i don't know much for sure.Hopefully the needle clip adjust (rich) and lean out pilot circuit will help.I'll post results when done.

I'm having about the same problem with my KZ1000... Sooty plugs at higher RPM. (I just posted a thread looking for testing info). I'm not getting enough charging voltage so likely not putting enough voltage to the coils. Your problem may be different but you might check for something close to 14 volts while revving it to 4000rpm. I only have 12.5 at 4k...

got 14 + volts at battery when revving so im all good there.although I should replace my coils for cheap insurance. It's a carb tuning issue in my opinion.going to make some changes and i'll report back.
