How to check cam lift at home.

How do I check my Camshaft Lift with tools I have at home?

I have seen several threads about this. Its not hard to do at home with tools on hand such as a vernier caliper and a pocket calculator.

OK....Measuring the lift of your camshaft. With a vernier caliper measure from heel of cam to peak of cam lobe. Move caliper keeping it snug to get the greatest number or the max lift. Now determine what your base circle of the cam is. Stock KZ is 1.110 base circle.

Take your max lift and subtract the base circle. This gives total valve lift. It’s that easy to determine a found cam or check for wear of your cams.

Couldnt you just use a dial indicator on the edge of a bucket? B) www.amazon.com/dp/B002YPHT76/ref=bit_p_b...3_20120519_US_ie_ds_
It would be worth paying $25 for something like this just to have in the tool box to have for degreeing cams and other projects.
You could just make a small steel plate with a hole punched in it and bolt it to a valve cover bolt hole in the head and attach this to it. B)

The base circle is not the journal. The base circle is the round part of the "egg".
