kz750 twin won't shift into second
09 Nov 2012 22:09
hey guys, so i have lately been building my own rearsets seeing as how you can turn the pegs around on a 750. Well i bought an en500 lever and it seemed like it would work, i just needed to extend the area from the lever to where the linkage ball mounts so when i push down i have more travel in the linkage. anyway FINALLY got that welded up today. I put it on and it was acting like it still didnt have enough travel. so i put the old shifter back on to be sure, and now i cant get the thing to shift into 2nd with the old shift lever!
it will shift from 1st to neutral and back but it will not go to second!, i have rocked it while in gear, even started it and tried to shift to second without clutch i though maybe it would catch, but nothing!
any ideas? the only thing i can thik is the shifting fork got off track or something. Anyone have pics of dissasembling the shifters to this thing etc?
thanks,
gumby

Those transmissions have a neutral finder - you cannot shift into 2nd by design with the bike stationary... not an issue...
If you get the rear wheel off the ground and spin it, usually that's fast enough for you to get the transmission into 2nd.
I think 1978 was the first year Kawasaki had this feature on the 750 twins.

hehe. I actually really like that feature, but it catches everyone, including me, by surprise the first time, and we all think we've killed our transmissions.
