So Ive finally got around to checking the clearences and I have some very tight ones. This is the first time I have ever done this but I followed the manual exactly then double checked measurements.

1. .178
2. .076
3. .102
4. less then .038
5. .127
6. less then .038
7. .063
8. less then .038

I believe I can figure out what to do with most of them but what would you do about the really tight ones? On 4, 6, and 8 I couldnt even get the smallest feeler in.

No problem; just install the shims called for in the valve adjustment chart in the Kawasaki Service Manual. Ed

Ok I have the shims out and plan on ordering from Z1 tomorrow, does this sound right?

clearance current shim shim needed

1 .178 265 2.70
2 .076 275 2.65
3 .102 Good
4 <.038 265 2.50-2.55 thinking 2.55?
5 .127 Good
6 <.038 270 2.55-2.60 thinking 2.60?
7 .063 270 2.60
8 <.038 260 2.45-2.50 thinking 2.50?

Ive read the write up someone had on here that says that for peak performance you want them as near to .10 if possible so the 2 that are in spec but are a little on the loose\tight side Im gonna change to see what I get. What should I do about the ones that I couldnt get the .038 feeler in? go a full .10 under current shim? I dont understand why the manual puts these into 2 different size shims on the graph. Thx for the help, I think I might be overthinking this because of the fact that I thought it would be harder or what? I also realize I can use some of the used shims instead of ordering

According to the KZ650 manual it looks like those should get you within spec. Check after installing to see if further adjustment is needed. Do 1 cam at a time. ;) Ed
