I bought this bike about a month ago, slowly trying to bring it back to life. Id like to know what model and engine i have. The po said it is a 1979 kz 1000 ltd. The frame and engine numbers are as follows. Frame # KZT00B517299 Engine # KZT00AE058867. I do know it has been bored to 73mm and has andrews 2x cams. I believe this thing should be NASTY once i get it running. Kerker 4 into 1 also. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

From what Ive been told over the years the 79 ltds basically got left over 78 kz1000 bottem ends with updated charging systems with the newer style smog motor cylinder head, then in 1980 the ltds got the same motor as the mkII bikes.
Theres nothing wrong with the older style motors,it just got caught in the middle of a parts change over is all B)

Early 79's are like that. Later 79's got the MKII cranks, cam chains and sprockets. There used to be a serial number range on the Kaw microfiche that gave the information.

If the motor is a 78 and virgin, it will have the old head & old style engine covers plus old style charging system, small pin crank with full circle counter weights, points ignition, etc...
