Crankshaft main bearing caps was created by Powerstroke_fan
Today i was working on getting the bottom end put together on my new engine build. I dropped the crankshaft in alligned the races with the dowels and made sure its all sitting properly. I Install the main bearing cap making sure its facing the right direction. I snug the bolts by hand then torque them using proper sequence and torque value. I go to verly spin the crank and it wont budge. So i start looking and i noticed that the new H/D timing chain is tight against the plastic slider/guide that is bolted on the main bearing cap. It wasnt doubled over or anything. It is mk11 cases with mk11 crank. Had a 1000 crank in it when i got it. So the question i have is, Are the plastic sliders/guides diffrent on the earlier 1000s compared to the mk11's?

You can use a 900/1000/or mkII crank in any 900/1000 cases between 73-80 B)

So whats the deal then? The chain is tight against the plastic it even indented the plastic from where i torqued it down. If you get the plastic slider/guide switched from end to end will it cause this?

The mkII crank has an extra tooth on the sprocket compared to the regular crank,I guess I never thought about that causing an issue.
ill check a couple sources to see if part number is differant B)

The main bearing cap comes with the cases. You won't find it listed alone.

Toss the plastic guide if it's causing a problem or clearance it....pretty simple.

I remember when those came out Manley sold them and it was before the MK11. The center pin and sprocket is larger, so the chain diameter is bigger. I can see why it would hit.

Guys used to have problems getting the chain on the crank sprocket when installing the cams. That's the main purpose for that guide. If you set the bike level, there really is no problem getting the chain securely on the crank sprocket.... I don't run them in my motors.
