Pumpgas,octane, compression ?? was created by kzz1king
Another member raised this on another thread. What octane is needed for higher compression? What are you doing to get there? Anyone using octane booster. Buying special fuels? Pulling timing? What is a good compression for a street motor?
I am running a 1075 kit, 10/1 I believe.

Its the actual cranking compression numbers you need to worry about and it has a lot to do with cam lift and duration and cam timing. B)

I bet that gets expensive i just run only premium 93 octane. Sometimes i go to the gas station close by where they sell 110 octane and get some and mix it half half. I can tell a diffrence, But it isnt neccassary to run that high octane. It does smell good when burnt also. Like wireman said it all depends on your engine.

So how does one get these numbers and how do I use them when I get them? I cannot remember what I degreed the cams to. Cams are a mild drop in. My hearing is not good enough to pick up pinging. Bike runs great and I want to keep it that way ;)

1075 10.5-1 with pretty agressive cams and I run 93, if it pings a little I add booster. I like to run the lowest octane I can. I don't run race fuel and don't see any need at all on a low compression motor like these.
4thekz, I hope turbo blue is better in your area, worst fuel I've ever seen! Everybody had problems with it around here to the point they quit selling it, nobody would buy it.

Get a compression tester from auto parts store would be first thing if bike is up/running B)

Jim is correct if you gotta know exactly. But it i were you i would just always run 93 and you will be allright. Ive been running it for a while with no problems. It sounds like you have a mild build. I wouldnt worry about the race fuel unless you like spending almost $7 a gal on gas.

Apologies for a somewhat off-track question, but does someone make a combination compression and leak down tester, or are they separate entities?

I know the mechanics behind each method, just trying to save myself a few bucks.
