1980 KZ550 LTD stop light was created by BLT
Hi, I am new to the forum and just bought a KZ550 LTD. After riding for half a day, both the stop lamp and the oil light in the instrument cluster turned on.

Is the oil light on because of oil overheating? Or incorrect oil viscosity?

The stop lamp lights up every time I apply the brakes, but later in the day the stop lamp was on continuously. Might this be a low gas level light as well?

Thanks for your help.

The oil level should be visible in the window of the clutch housing. Some models have a high and low level marks.I would not run the engine until you determine if the oil sender is acting up or because the oil is low.

As for the bake light indicator, again, some models have a sensor that turns on the warning light everytime the brake is applied, but since your's is now always on, I'd remove the brake/running light bulb(s) in the rear light and see if they are burned out/broken. I believe they are # 1157 dual filiment bulbs.

Hi and welcome to KZR!

I doubt that the incorrect weight of oil would fail to build enough pressure to trip the sensor. Can you swap it out with another sensor?

For the brake light Check the switch attached to the rear brake to see if it is retracting after you release the brake.
