Stock Exhaust Question

1. Has anyone opened up one of these cans and could desribe what the baffle looks like
2. If I keep (or modify) the baffle, will my back pressure be altered
I want to keep the dual exhaust look, just shorten up these 30 foot cans a little, ultimately about the size of the posted pic. Thanks.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

On my 750 twin, the stock pipes were so long they actually obstructed the top of the rear shocks. What a delight when I went to put on new rear shocks and I found out I had to drop the entire exhaust system... :ohmy:RonKZ650 wrote: Why in the world would anyone want short pipes?

I love the pipes, but I also love the simplicity of the shaftie rear end, which I feel the 70 foot cans kind of overwhelm. I am sure they are beautiful when chromed up new, but these cans are junk and I am trying to "recycle" them.

Wow, those dunstalls look nice. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and take a sawzall to the mufflers, and weld in a universal baffle. I'm going to try and save the end cap, modify it to work on what I have left of the muffler so it still sort of looks stock.

DesertKZ wrote: Hello all. Just picked up this KZ1000st and it looks like a battery exploded all over the stock pipes, completely ruining the chrome. I'd like to paint them black, but I'd also like to take about 12" off the end as well. So questions:
1. Has anyone opened up one of these cans and could desribe what the baffle looks like
2. If I keep (or modify) the baffle, will my back pressure be altered

DON'T SHORTEN, or "PUNCH" THE STOCK BAFFLES ! I've heard first hand how ungodly sick loud stock pipes will become after gutting baffles. It's not even a nice "racey" type tone, it will sound like one LOUD exhaust leak. As for the chrome, just have the complete exhaust sand blasted and then repaint with VHT or Rustoleum stove paint black.
