Timing chain was created by built408
I have a newbie cam chain question, I have some noise in my engine a bunch of people say its the cam chain. So im going to try to adjust the chain I have the origanal owners manual and it has the instructions on how to do this but it will be my first time. Any one have any advice and how will I know if it worked. So I just loosen the bolt and re tighten it? Seems a little vague and easy. Also im going to get the valve clearance checked by a professional does any one have a ball park price I should pay to make sure Im not getting ripped off. Thanks.

Sorry but what is cam chain idler? Is that the chain tensioner with the lock nuts?
Thats the gear at the top. What you think that may have went bad I never thought of that.

"So I just loosen the bolt and re tighten it?"

That's not how you do it. You may want to re-read the manual. If it simply says "loosen the bolt and re tighten it" get the Kawasaki Service Manual. Before loosening the bolt you must set the crankshaft at a specific point. Ed

Thanks I've been looking all over the internet for like two weeks for a non virused out downloadable version but cannot find one I think I will just buy the clymer. Do you guys recommend the clymer or something different. Thanks a bunch Guys. Also I know thats not all to it but i dont need to list all the steps. But when it comes down to it all you do after you use a 17mm wrench, turn the crank shaft clockwise about two turns, and align one of the t marks on the timing advancer with the timing mark above the advancer . Loosen the chain tensioner locknut and bolt ( with the bolt loose,a spring inside takes up slack automatically)....etc I just wasent sure if I should do different or any advice
Im not a bike teck but im not stupid ed

I recommend the Kawasaki Service Manual (not Clymer or Haynes). They are usually available on eBay, just be sure to get one that covers your exact year/model as there are differences. Ed
