The top video Rocks!... ;)

We use Crisco cooking "White" shortening grease with exceptional results at work. Our machinist taught me that trick plus helps capture the shavings when tapping aluminum or steel... Have used other lubricants (WD-40 for example) and have broken taps with it...

I'm with Ed on this one, pull the head for now way in hell would I perform this while on the bike.
Way too many variables to go wrong...

1) Shavings in cylinder... :pinch:
2) Alignment inaccuracies of tooling due to frame tubing and such...

I know, laugh all you want but the crap is magic for tap... B)

BigK, you can do it without removing the head. Like was stated, if any chips do fall into the cylinder and get trapped or can't be retrieved, it is soft aluminum. It will be minute, and will easily pass out of the engine with no damage.
We use tapping wax, it rarely ever comes off of the tap while tapping. Never had a problem with any I've done.
If you do pull the head, don't pull the jug to replace the base gasket unless it is leaking or you disturb it when removing the head.

This is the stuff: :)

EDIT: never tried the Crisco OMR. I'm sure wifey would give me some strange looks if she caught me with the can

I tried find the Time-Sert rethreading tool at the local auto parts store, but could not find it. I found thread-safer and fix a thread. Are those good or should I find Time-Sert ? Am I going to have to order Time-sert from online ? Is tehre are particular part number for the KZ 900 ?

O'Reilly has a website. I think you can find out if your local store carries these from that.

The larger NAPA stores (the local "warehouse" store, if you have one) should have both Helicoil and Timesert.
