The old Scoot runs great, but in 5th gear,I can't seem to get more than 7-7200 rpm's.So it's got 32k on it,and still mostly stock 'cept for pods,MAC 4-1,Dyno-jet kit and Accel coils.I just wanna go faster.Oh...Weisco or APE pistons? I wanna slap in new slugs. Is this a 17 or 18mm wrist pin motor? It's an '82 model.

When I get that new Electrex rotor on my engine, I might try running at 9500...for a few seconds.

17mm wrist pins in that motor.

Stock J head, stock cams & BS34 carburetors.

Put some GPZ11 cams in it from an 83-85 model and it should pull more RPM in top gear. That's the cheapest bolt on performance you'll find for that particular bike.

If you want it to really run, you need the top end massaged so it can breathe better.

Something's wrong.
Would aim for pulling near red line in 5th.

Valve clearances within specs?

Ignition advancer properly functioning?

Good Fortune! :)

Larry, how do the GPZ1100 cams compare to the Andrews 2x cams? I have a 1979 shaftie with a 1045 10.25-1 kit. I like the idea of the GPZ cams but have never found any for sale, also I would like to keep the stock cable tach or one that looks stock and the GPZ's lack a cable drive gear.

There are two lifts on GPZ cams. The high lift cams are almost identical specs but have a little "pointyer" profile than 2x. I have used both 2x and high lift GPZ cams in the same application (turbo). I think the 2x are a little better, especially for aspirated combinations.

GPz11 cams from 83 -85 are a little more cam than a 2x. You have to modify sprockets to use GPz cams. That includes new bolt holes, opening up the centers and using allen head bolts to clear the chain.
