in gear but won't move was created by gixxerfiend
So im sitting on the side of the road waiting on my friend with a truck. I was riding about 90 mph and all of the sudden the bike acted like it was in neutral. It will switch threw the gears and the clutch feels the same. it done smell like burnt fibers ant there isnt any smoke coming from the franchise. There is no rattling or any new sounds. Its like something has come undone. Anyone have any ideas

Open up the sprocket cover, I'll bet the nut is loose or missing on the output shaft that holds the engine sprocket on.

This just happened to me as well. I passed a buddy of mine and when I shifted into 5th gear, it was like I was in neutral. The nut had fallen off the countershaft sprocket. Luckily it was stuck to all the chain lube on the cover. Make sure you have the lock washer installed. The tab on mine was gone.

I got home and took the cover off and sure enough the sprocket nut is missing. I even mentioned to the guy I was riding with that could be the problem. On the brightside the nut loosened off while busting a HD softails ass haha. what size is this nut and wheres a good place to find one?

$18.64 thats what the nut and washer costs me at the dealer. How do the people at the dealership sleep at night?
