Starter Clutch Wheel Z1 was created by Garn
This is what I see as a Z1 series Starter Gear wheel... Copper plated and with a small spigot to hold/ centre that damper....

Now looking at the picture below...I've recently seen a few of this type of starter clutch wheel... silver/ metal with no spigot. Can anyone identify this one?

A helpful member (Z1bman) from Z1 owners GB site, suggests it is from a 750 Zephyr. Anyone concur?

Some of my learned friends, that I have contacted over the years, must be able to answer my query. The fact that I have seen more than one of these, tells me it is standard on a particular model.

It was on ebay the other week, seller was Oink Johnson, a message querying the item was unanswered. My research has drawn a blank!

Well according to other forums the "Man from Mandurah" and both Rob and Clyde have suggested. there is a difference in Starter wheels for Z1 and Z1R and on. Also, Dave Marsden from ZPower replied and stated they were different.
So I am incorrect to say part # 21167-003 and # 16085-1012 are the same . The main difference is the hole in the centre of the wheel, takes a bigger roller bearing, to cover the slightly larger diameter of the crankshafts without the woodruff key. So one part of my question is satisfied.

I'm going to leave this topic (my temporary obsession) without really finding out, where that ground version (below) comes from.

PS.. I have to record this as a complete failure to resolve a query. It's the only posting I have ever made where I was the only participant!

SUCCESS!
Thanks to Z1bman [Z1 owners Forum],
Clyde [Kawasaki Z1 Classik forum]
900 Four/ RGH/ Hench [most forums].

This proves it pays to read the small print in Kawasaki Z1 Bulletins.
Prompted by Z1bman to read Bulletin Ser 74 Z-24 (Z1 Rubber Damper Modification) Page M5
Where it states.... the inner diameter of the rubber damper was enlarged from 31 to 36mm to fit the circular step appearing on the new starter gear.
So, if I had bothered to listen to some of the above remarks, I would have realised there was a change to the starter gear wheel about Z1F-6400.
Hence, the above photo is of the Early Version of the Z1 starter gear wheel.

I can sleep now!
