WOW. Caught almost in the nick of time. I think a good flushing would also be wise with that one section broken like it is.
Good Luck,

Ooof! How'd you find that? Were you doing routine maintenance, or did you hear it coming apart?
Good catch!!!

Was getting a rattle at idle, especially while letting the clutch out to get the bike moving.
I suspected a bad bearing in the front bevel case, and was resigned to having to spend a small fortune for that fix.
Alternative to that, the cause may have been in the clutch? So I pulled out the clutch basket, thinking a nut/bolt may have worked loose, but NO, that wasn't it.
Started the engine after installing the clutch, and felt the vibration while touching the stater cover.
Off with that, and there it was (is)! [strike]#$%@![/strike]

When pulling the stator cover, the two broken magnet sections came out along with it. The picture was taken moments later, after fitting the magnet chunks back into the rotor.
Surprisingly, the magnet isn't missing a significant amount of material, as I rode it at least twenty miles that way.

This Kaw will not die...it's just patiently waiting on an(other) ebay part, and getting a good rest in the mean time.

Next week I'm going to rip this thing down the road!

The replacement rotor arrived today..."broken"!!! :(

I tried attaching the removed starter clutch on my old "saved" rotor, but it won't fit over the round flat disk on the back, since the disk is 10mm larger in diameter on that rotor, for some reason.

I'm stymied!

Someone else was talking about this happening in another thread.
Had never even heard about this. And smartas* me thought I knew it all when it came to these bikes.
Now I can sleep well, I learned something new today.
GREAT catch ,
I hope the cover is OK.

I decided to order one of the rotors from the UK Electrex Co., and put an end to the worry of this happening again. Besides, it's not getting easier to find quality used parts, especially with the problem associated with this one.

Done! Thanx for the suggestion. Pricey, but...we'll see how she runs.
She's always happy when I get her a new part.

Thanks MDawnz1. She's sitting patiently till the Electrex unit arrives, and meanwhile I can get some work done to pay for it.
All's good, took the oil pan off to clean...not much in there. Otherwise looks fine.

Ther's no broken magnet stuck to a metal piece inside the motor is there? Like the crank or something else? Oil pick up maybe?
