I've got a 50/50 chance on this, but which cylinder is the number one cylinder,is it the left side or right side when i'm sitting on the bike. the bike is a 78 kz 400 twin.

Number 1 cylinder is always the left cylinder as sitting on the bike for any traverse mounted inline multi-cylinder engine.

From a timing perspective, it's irrelevant, since both plugs fire at once. If you're synchronizing carbs, the left side throttle opening is fixed at idle and you'll be adjusting the right side carb.

Thanks for the info, it is for timing, i want to use a timing light and wasnt sure what plug wire to loop it onto, so i guess my 50/50 chance was more like 100/100. Thanks again
