Does the GPz manual relate? was created by thejij
Hello all,

Yes im new to this forum. Why you ask? Well.... i just got myself a new to me 82 750 Spectre. It needs some work...

It needs a valve cover gasket replaced, and holy man does she do some weird wobbling... i couldnt ride it home.. i had to park it and then put it in a truck, it would have bene unsafe. I have ordered new tires (front/rear as I read that might cause it, and the tires were crap anyway)
It seems there is no air pressure in the back shocks, so i will assume that would help the weird wobble and hard to balance problem.

I ordered a Jaynes repair manual on line, however it will take 3-5 to get to me they say. So my question is .. will the manual for the 83 GPZ work just as well? I read somewhere it was the same engine, however I dont want to mess things up. I not a mechanic by any means, but I can read instructions and most likely be able to figure it out.

The link I am talking about is here: kz.bike-night.com/media/GPz750-full.pdf

Does anyone know where there is an electronic copy of the service manaul for this bike? I even tried finding an electronic copy of the clymer ones.. but no luck. I would like to start replacing the valve cover gasket this weekend, but with no manual I dont want to break anything.

Thanks for your time and knowledge... these forums are great !
Jeremy

ps. I read you like pictures.. so I am attaching my new to me purchase.. warning.. she is lil rough but ill give her the TLC she needs.

I was able to find a manual called KZ 750 Fours, which I guess is the same as the GPz one . There was no years etc listed, but it did show E1 and H1 , i know mine is 750 N1 .. so im not sure how close they are ..

The Spectre engine is a mix of GPz and standard KZ750 bits, but for the engine you can very well use any 750/4 manual. Carb type and jetting will vary between models, however.

Regarding the chassis, your bike differ greatly from the standard models as yours is shaft drive, most - but not all - models are chain drive. If your manual includes either the P model (aka GT750) and/or the Spectre/later LTDs, your chassis will be covered.

For a factory manual more specific to your bike, search ebbaayy for KZ750 Shaft manual.

Hi Great looking bike. I'd probably bet 10 to 1 that you need new head bearings. Mine wobbled very baddly until I replaced mine KZ 650 E. Good luck with her, these are great bikes.Bob

thanks for the advice bob, about the head bearing... ill see what happens after the new tires. Yesterday I put air in the shocks, made sure the tire pressure was at 40 psi on each tire and took it for a spin.. it was much easier to balance.. but still wobbled a bit.. hoping it just needs the new tires and alignment .. since im paying Kawasaki to do it.. im sure they will do it correctly. ( if i get them to install them.. i get 40 percent off the tires... plus I dont really want to change the tires lol.. so ill let them.

After that.. if it wobbles.. then ill check the head bearing. Thats something I can probably do myself, ill watch a youtube video and check the repair manual.. cant be too too hard.

Nice bike
You could check the wheel bearings as well. Put er up on the centre stand and see if there is free play in the wheels.

Well, i got the new tires installed... and found out that the head bearing is seized.. so ill have to find out where to order that from.. im guessing if i ask kawasaki to do it, ill end up paying like 85 dollars for it. Question tho, is the head bearing the same as the steering bearing.. just so i know what im ordering.

I pulled off the tank tonight, drained the oil, and removed the valve cover (had to remove the coils to get the cover off)... I still need to remove the rest to get to the bottom gasket.. but and needing to watch a video on how to do that. Im not sure how to do that.. Not a mechanic at all.. but im going to try and learn by doing. Videos and the manual im sure ill be fine...

Make sure you check the valve clearances since you removed the valve cover. The manual will tell you how. If out of spec you need to remove the camshafts, and then the cam follower/ tappet to get to the shims. They are known as shim under bucket. Can be a frustrating PITA for a non mechanic. If you read through your manual, and then if you have questions the guys here will help you through it. ;)
