Perhaps its because its late, maybe this second beer is kickin in, but I am incredibly confused by what you are saying(or trying too). The tab is how you adjust the float, make a slight bend up or down to raise/lower the fuel level in the bowl. When using the "clear tube method"(the ONLY way to set height) You simply thread a clear tube into the bowls drain screw(experiment with sizes), then you hold it up against the carb to see fuel level

Would keep in mind that the purpose of adjusting float height is to achieve the correct fuel level, NOT to resolve a leaking float valve issue.

The float valve should already be working perfectly, before performing the clear tube test, and before adjusting the float level to achieve the correct fuel height.

If the float valve is leaking, the clear tube test will be invalid, because the leak will allow incoming gasoline to continue rising inside the float bowl.

Good Fortune! :)

Is the existing float damaged beyond restoration?
Am thinking it might be possible to bend the arms back into original position and return the float to its original configuration, using one of the undamaged floats as a guide.

Are the floats made of brass? Or a non-metallic material?

It may be feasible to use solder in the restoration.

Good Fortune! :)

16031 16031-1001 FLOAT $33.81

BEFORE ordering a float from anywhere, first confirm the part number at kawasaki.com.
May use the link in my signature for assistance with finding information in kawasaki.com.

Kawasaki.com shows the float as part no. 16031-1001, and also says it's currently available in limited quantities through Kawasaki dealerships.
Am guessing $45~$50.
The same float is reportedly used on 56 different Kawaski models.

I didn't check with sudco.com, from whom the float may also be available.

Could also start a topic in KZr's Classified "Wanted" section.

Good Fortune! :)
