I have an oil leak that I want to get fixed. It is right inside the frame rail behind the shifter. It is a little round cover on the bottom of the engine. It's driving me nuts. Looks like I will need to pull the engine side-cover to get to the top screw to get it off. Will I need to drain the oil to pull this side-cover and worry about the gasket? Sure would be nice if it is an easy fix.......Thanks!

yes the side engine cover/ sprocket cover will have to come off. Then there is a Transmission cover, has the output shaft seal, shifter seal, etc. Could be a seal, or the gasket. I would remove the plate and replace the seals, and gasket. That should cure it.
Or it could be the O-ring on this bearing cover, #20 & #19

Here is the Transmission cover with its seals I mentioned first. #2,8,9, #10x3 ea.

Thank you for posting this. I am thinking it is the o-ring #19 in the top picture. That is where I will start. I will order it and get it coming. Thanks again!

You do not have to drain the oil to remove the sprocket cover. If you lean the bike a bit to the right no oil should come out when you replace the O-ring either.
