So I got this cool new autometer tach... :woohoo:
I have looked up and tryed all otions and this is what i have got. :silly:
so two dioeds and a resistor is what I read on our archive sweet 5 bucks..
come home try it out no go
tryed a y with the two diodes to each coil and no resistor no go
hook it to one coil reads 500 rpm when bike idols at 1000 checked by the kz dr.
since my bike had an eletric tack I thought try the stock pickup same reading 500 rpm at 1000 so atleast im learning .. but now what???

I could realy use some help tryed the two diagrams i have found on here to no avil..

com on guys no one has had this issue ??? I have to make this thing work.. so far all i can come up with is finding a way to dubble the pulses from a single coil.. or from the tach pick up.. also should mention it has been switched to 4 cyl by the dip switches

Not familiar with the diagrams you mentioned.
You are getting half the pulses you should be getting but I would expect you to get twice as many due to the wasted spark aspect of these ignitions.
Point us to the diagrams.

when you wired the dioeds and res did you wire them correct. they need to be wired a certin way. they have a polarty and can only go one way, the wrong way no dice. see my pic as I have done this also. in the instructions the tach needed to be set for a 4 6 or 8 cylinder. if it was a 8 you did nothing. if it was a 6 cylinder you cliped a brown wire. if it was a 4 cylinder you cliped two wires. was this the case with your tach?

Did some quick Google-fu and found that the diode/resistor network was called for when using a tach (that was set up for a 4 cylinder) on a 2 cylinder bike. That way you are getting the pulse from both coils without them interfering with each other. Is this sounding right?
Have you tried running it in 8 cylinder mode with your current setup?

That makes sense but if his tach is capable of sensing a 4 cylinder setup. why does he need the diode/resistor network?

so to put this down once more ..
i hook up to one coil 500 rpm
same if i hook into stock tach pickup
now the fun stough
i have tryed this powered and not switched and tryed almost every veriation and still no good
i am not shure if the diodes are not right or what but it doesnt pick up at all no matter witch way the are facing
as for the resistor im at a 470k diodes are 1.5 amp 2761114
i dont realy wana spend 80 on a converter i got the tach for 100 so if i have to buy the 80 $ adapter im 200 in and i could have just went with a bike tach for that

I don't think the diodes being too heavy is going to be an issue. They are acting like check valves to keep the coils from crosstalking to each other. The resistor is a failsafe in case the diode(s) short out.
Do you have the install instructions for the tach?
The only one I can find on the net shows the input (green wire) coming from the negative side of the coil.
This is what I am looking at:
www.autometer.com/productPDF/1244.pdf
Could it just be a setup error? Having an offset of exactly half the expected readings sounds like a setup issue.
I'm looking at your circuit and it's definitely different than 4thekz1000's. Yours has the diodes backwards and you have a pullup resistor on the +12VDC side. I'm going to guess that your circuit is for a different mfr of tach. Try his circuit.
