Engine Ignition Electrical Question was created by retcol
I pulled the engine out of my 78 KZ1000A and am getting ready to install the engine out of my 80 KZ1000B LTD and noticed the ignition wiring is different. The 78 has points and a 2 wire lead out of the ignition and the 80 has electronic ignition and has a 3 wire lead. How do i connect the 3 wire lead into the 78 2 wire wiring harness? A friend said I had to install the entire wiring harness from the 80 into my 78 frame for the engine wiring to work. Any advice would be appreciated.

one wire goes to the hot 12volt

one wire is 1 and 4 cylinder to the coil

one wire is 2 and 3 cylinder to the coil

that makes 3 wires.

this link is for a dyna-s but are the same

I sort of have almost the same problem. Im trying to put an earlier ignition switch in an 80 1000 LTD {lost keys} and the 80 has an extra yellow wire. Is there any way to use that earlier switch in my 80 ?
