Custom length 630 chain was created by WarTiger
OK, so I am getting far enough along to start getting all of the miscellaneous parts I need to completer the bike (just finished engine rebuild!!!). I was looking at chains and to my surprise, it didn't seem at first glance that you can just get a custom length of chain cut. I am still running a 630 (sorry didn't know about the 530 conversion till after I bought my sprockets), and I have a weld on hardtail with a 5" stretch. I know I could always just get two chains and link them together, but it seems as though with the cost of the 630, it would be much cheaper to get a custom length of chain that would suit my needs.

Does anyone know where I might be able to come across such a thing? I'm not sure exactly on the length until my final mock-up, but I am just trying to get everythingsorted out now. I just got orders to Japan, so I am now on a much tighter schedule to finish the bike. Looks like I'm gonna be bringing this baby back to it's motherland!!! So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please don't apologize for using the macho man-sized 630 instead of the sissy looking little girl 530. :cheer:

When explaining "size matters" to all the admiring babes, they will readily accept that such a powerful bike requires the larger chain, and won't be dissuaded by the feeble explanations of the 530 guys (who ya most probably don't wanna race).

Good Fortune! :)

Right on Patton! Finally a true beleiver! Lol. I mean the 530 is definitely cheaper, but cheaper isn't always better.

MFolks - Thanks for all of the info. There's a lot of good stuff there. Took me a while to wade through it all. I guess first thing is first, I have to get my mock-up done so I can get a good measurement. The chain length calculator should work great, judt need to get the overall length first.

While we are on the subject, does anyone know of anywhere to get a custom axle made. When my hardtail was made either my measurements were off or Cycle One was off. Either way the rear end is about 1/2" too wide. My options are to try and find an axle that will work or to have a custom one made. I am definitely going to trudge through the junkyard first, but if that doesn't work, then a custom might be my only option. Any thoughts?

Good lord man!!! Do you just have a library of websites ready to go at a moments notice? That's great stuff man. I'm still gonna go digging through the junkyard, but I have a feeling that finding the exact right size may be pretty tough. Thanks for the info.

First off, thanks for all of the input. Seems like it shouldn't be any issue to get what I need.

So I'm thinking with the stretch and all of that extra chain flopping around that it might be wise to add a tensioner into the mix. I just keep having visions of slinging several feet of 630 while flying down the highway. Ouch!! Any advice?

I've got many items on my system listed as "Motorcycle Supplies", it's just a small matter of finding the sub catagory, and cut and paste. The listings grow almost daily......

Put 2 pieces together.
I have a section of 30 links of 630 EK MS non-o-ring chain.
Don't be afraid of master links!
Plus this way you can mock it up.

All High Per. places sell good chain by the link. If you want new stuff

EK sells 630 chain up to I think 130 links long which is enough to deal with up to 12" over. I bought a 120 link and cut off like 12 links on my 8" over arm. Also, if you're running a hard tail the chain can be tightened more than recommended since there is no suspension movement eliminating the need for any rollers/sliders in the mix.
