If it isn'r one thing it's another! was created by badrhino
So.....there I was, got my valves adjusted and put the valve cover back on. I go to put my spring and cap back on the cam chain tensioner and am tightening it up and *SNAP* just broke the threads or something off if it. Are you kidding me? I don't think this bike wants to get back on the road. Where can a guy find a good cheap cam chain tensioner?
Should I go stock or aftermarket?

It is for a KZ1000J motor.

you can buy the aftermarket ones decently cheap. And also depends on if you can remember to check it and adjust it properly. Dont want the cam chain getting loose and blowing up the motor. I know you could get some off ebay and probably z1 enterprises.

"just broke the threads or something off if it."... Image...?
What exactly broke...?

A: Two bolts securing the tensioner into the head...
B: Bolt that holds the spring loaded tensioner bolt into head/chain...

If B, you can always tap it out for a bigger bolt for locking into position...
Or you can drill and tap on the end like after market tensioners...
Or get a new after market tensioner (APE, Z1, American Classix etc...)

Hey Jim
Did they provide instructions for adjusting and if so, accurate...?

It was just like the factory one, then you turn the bolt till its semi tight and back it out 1/4 turn and tighten the nut.

Yes, after further inspection the cap definitely snapped the threads off of the tensioner body. It looks like it is made out of pot metal.
